Personality
Personality
Very little of Dhruv's personality is shown directly. His historical reputation and position within Sendai Colony establish him as an extremely experienced and dangerous sorcerer, but the story does not provide a lengthy conversation or personal philosophy for him.
His willingness to participate in the Culling Game and the large number of points he acquires indicate that he readily engages other participants. He is also sufficiently dangerous that the other leading Sendai players account for his abilities when deciding whether to make a move.
Beyond those observable traits, canon provides little basis for assigning him specific motivations or personal characteristics.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Dhruv controls two types of independent shikigami. Among them are enormous rodent-like creatures that circle his position and function independently rather than requiring constant direct commands.
The trajectories traced by his shikigami form domains. This effectively allows Dhruv to claim dangerous areas through their movement, making approaching or moving through his territory hazardous.
His technique is strategically important within Sendai Colony. Kurourushi, despite being a special-grade cursed spirit, remains dormant while Dhruv is active because their abilities create an unfavorable matchup.
Dhruv's historical record also establishes his power independently of the Culling Game. He had previously conquered Japan during the Civil War of Wa, and his modern incarnation accumulates ninety-one points before Yuuta reaches him.
Story Role
Story Role
Dhruv forms one side of the Sendai Colony deadlock with Takako Uro, Ryu Ishigori, and Kurourushi. Each combatant's abilities discourage the others from making a decisive move.
Yuuta enters Sendai with the goal of acquiring points and protecting civilians. He targets Dhruv while the other major players continue watching one another.
Yuuta defeats and kills Dhruv before the main Sendai battle begins. His death removes the technique that had kept Kurourushi dormant, immediately destabilizing the four-way balance.
Yuuta subsequently copies Dhruv's shikigami technique and later demonstrates it against Uro, showing that Dhruv's technique became part of Yuuta's copied arsenal.
