Deirdre Fou Roseblade

Deirdre is proud, confident and highly conscious of the Roseblade family's distinguished history. She has little tolerance for disrespect and expects other nobles to understand the responsibilities associated with their rank.

Leon manages to provoke her precisely because he attacks that pride directly. When frightened students appeal to the achievements of their families rather than acting themselves, Leon points out that inherited glory means little if the current generation refuses to take responsibility.

Deirdre responds unusually well to Leon's abrasive nature. Rather than simply resenting him, she becomes fascinated by someone willing to insult powerful nobles to their faces and then personally accept the dangers he demands that others face.

Deirdre receives the advanced education expected of a high-ranking noblewoman and understands aristocratic politics, administration and the obligations of her household.

She is capable of acting under military pressure and possesses more resolve than many academy students once forced to confront the implications of their noble status.

Her later responsibilities move increasingly toward administration. Deirdre becomes involved in government and logistical work, using the organizational skills expected of the Roseblade family's heiress rather than serving primarily as a frontline fighter.

Deirdre becomes prominent during the Fanoss attack on the academy students. As one of the highest-ranking nobles present after Angelica, she is among those Leon confronts when students hesitate to fight.

When Deirdre cites the Roseblade family's achievements, Leon bluntly points out that those accomplishments belong to her ancestors. His insult wounds her pride but also helps push her and the other students into accepting responsibility for defending themselves.

The confrontation leaves Deirdre strongly interested in Leon. She remains connected to him beyond the school-trip conflict and later takes a more active role in the political and administrative affairs surrounding his rise.

Leon Fou Bartfort earns Deirdre's attention by challenging her pride during the Fanoss crisis. His complete lack of deference toward her status distinguishes him sharply from most men she encounters.

Dorothea Fou Roseblade is Deirdre's older sister.

Nicks Fou Bartfort becomes connected to the Roseblade family through his growing relationship with Dorothea.

Clarice Fia Atlee later works alongside Deirdre in administrative and logistical matters during major national conflicts.
