Personality
Personality
Mokkoi is arrogant, acquisitive, callous, and accustomed to solving problems with money. Wealth has insulated him from many of the risks faced by ordinary Gourmet Hunters, and he readily treats hired personnel as expendable when a venture no longer appears profitable.
His pursuit of rare ingredients is driven by curiosity and possession rather than the reverence for food seen in figures such as Komatsu. During the Century Soup expedition, Mokkoi is willing to spend an enormous sum to obtain something virtually nobody has tasted, yet he is equally willing to abandon the people sent to retrieve it when his surveillance suggests the prize does not exist.
He is not a reckless thrill-seeker personally. Mokkoi takes extensive precautions to keep himself away from physical danger, including the use of remotely controlled mechanical replicas and armed Gourmet SP personnel.
His arrogance is supported by genuine business competence. Company Gourdarake is one of the world's major ingredient-shipping enterprises, and Mokkoi has accumulated enough wealth and influence to operate alongside heads of state, legendary chefs, and the leaders of international food organizations.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Mokkoi has no established personal combat technique and is not portrayed as a Gourmet Hunter capable of fighting high-level beasts himself. His principal power is economic. With an annual income around twenty trillion yen, he can finance expeditions, hire elite specialists, acquire rare equipment, and mobilize large private operations.
He employs Gourmet SP bodyguards and owns numerous robots that resemble his own body. These machines can be controlled remotely, allowing Mokkoi to attend dangerous locations without risking his actual life.
His company also gives him access to transportation infrastructure capable of moving hunters and ingredients across hostile environments. The Ice Hell expedition includes a major vessel, aircraft, specialized Lighter Suits, surveillance equipment, and substantial logistical support supplied under his authority.
Mokkoi's resources later become even more significant when his connection to NEO is revealed. The secret organization possesses an information network described as surpassing even those of the IGO and Bishokukai, and Company Gourdarake becomes one of the powerful institutions supporting it.
Story Role
Story Role
Mokkoi first appears as one of the extremely wealthy consumers operating at the upper end of the Gourmet Age. His major early contribution comes when he places an enormous bounty on obtaining the original Century Soup from Ice Hell.
He recruits hunters through Morijii's Bar Heavy Lodge, offering ten billion yen to anyone who successfully retrieves the soup. Toriko, Komatsu, Match, Takimaru, and numerous others become involved in the expedition for their own reasons.
Mokkoi provides transport and cold-weather equipment but secretly monitors the expedition. When the information he receives leads him to believe that the Century Soup no longer exists, he orders his ship to leave rather than risking additional resources rescuing the remaining hunters.
He later attends the Cooking Festival alongside other enormously influential figures from the food world. During the Bishokukai invasion, Mokkoi takes part in a private meeting with other members of NEO, revealing that his activities extend far beyond ordinary corporate profiteering. Joa's arrival and the discussion of eliminating powerful figures establish him as one of the secret organization's core financial backers.
When Midora's Meteor Spice devastates the Human World, Joa's creature extracts Mokkoi and other NEO members from the disaster, preserving the organization's leadership for the conflict that follows.
