Chouji Akimichi

Chouji is gentle, considerate, and more emotionally sensitive than his large fighting style initially suggests. He strongly dislikes being called fat and can become furious when opponents insult his appearance.

His appetite is enormous, and food frequently dominates his attention during peaceful situations. He nevertheless shares willingly with people he trusts and associates eating with companionship rather than simple greed.

Chouji's greatest weakness early in the series is self-doubt. He sometimes assumes other people see him as inadequate, making Shikamaru's unconditional friendship especially important.

When friends are threatened, that insecurity gives way to extraordinary resolve. Chouji is willing to endure dangerous physical consequences if doing so protects his teammates.

Chouji uses the Akimichi clan's Multi-Size Technique, expanding parts or all of his body by converting calories into chakra.

Partial Multi-Size Technique enlarges individual limbs, allowing Chouji to deliver enormous punches without transforming his entire body.

Human Bullet Tank turns his enlarged body into a rotating projectile capable of crushing obstacles and opponents through momentum.

The Akimichi clan also possesses the Three Coloured Pills, emergency drugs that release progressively greater quantities of the user's stored energy. Each pill provides a dramatic increase in power but carries increasingly severe physical risks.

The final stage converts calories directly into chakra, producing large Butterfly Chakra Wings and enormous striking power.

By the Fourth Shinobi World War, Chouji learns to manifest the butterfly transformation without relying on the dangerous pills, demonstrating that he has mastered a power once accessible only through extreme risk.

Chouji begins as one of the Konoha rookies participating in the Chūnin Exams. His early appearances emphasize Team 10's Ino-Shika-Chō formation and his friendship with Shikamaru.

His most important Part I battle occurs during the Sasuke Retrieval Mission. When the pursuing team encounters the Sound Four, Chouji stays behind to fight Jirobo, whose physical strength initially overwhelms him.

Chouji uses all three Akimichi pills despite knowing their potentially fatal consequences. The fight forces him to reject Jirobo's insults and recognize the trust his teammates place in him.

In Part II, Chouji continues operating with Team 10 under Asuma and later participates in battles against Akatsuki.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Chouji initially hesitates when forced to confront the reincarnated Asuma. Encouragement from his father and teammates allows him to overcome that hesitation and activate his butterfly form without pills.

His maturation turns the insecure boy who feared being judged by others into one of the Akimichi clan's strongest representatives.

Shikamaru Nara is Chouji's closest friend. When other children reject Choji Akimichi, Shikamaru recognizes his kindness and chooses to spend time with him without concern for his weight.

Ino Yamanaka is Chouji's teammate and the third member of Ino-Shika-Chō. Ino Yamanaka's direct personality contrasts with Chouji's sensitivity, but their inherited clan techniques make them natural partners.

Asuma Sarutobi is Chouji's teacher. Asuma Sarutobi understands Chouji's gentle personality and encourages him to value the qualities that make him dependable rather than compare himself with more aggressive shinobi.

Choza Akimichi is Chouji's father and a senior member of the Akimichi clan. Choza Akimichi teaches his son the clan's techniques and supports him during the war when Chouji struggles emotionally.

Jirobo becomes Chouji's defining Part I opponent. Jirobo's repeated insults provoke Chouji, but the battle ultimately becomes less about his weight than proving his worth as a friend and shinobi.
