Personality
Personality
Chika is quiet, gentle, conscientious, and initially reluctant to depend on other people. Repeated encounters with Neighbors taught her that asking for help could place others in danger, so she learned to conceal supernatural incidents and distance herself emotionally.
She strongly dislikes the possibility of hurting another person. This becomes a serious problem once she trains as a Sniper, because Border's Rank Wars require agents to shoot other agents' Trion bodies. Even though bail-out prevents ordinary battlefield deaths, Chika struggles to pull the trigger when she knows the projectile will strike a human opponent.
Her reluctance is complicated by fear of how other people will react to her enormous Trion. Chika worries that displaying her full ability may make her seem abnormal or selfish. Rather than simply fearing violence, she sometimes avoids success because she does not want to attract resentment.
Tamakoma Second gradually gives her a healthier environment. Osamu and Yuuma do not treat her Trion as something shameful, while training with experienced Border agents shows her ways of contributing without forcing herself immediately into actions she cannot yet accept.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Chika has one of the largest known Trion capacities in Border. Her reserves are so extreme that standard weapons produce effects far beyond their intended scale. An Ibis shot from Chika can destroy enormous sections of structures, while her Shields can withstand attacks that would overwhelm ordinary agents.
As a Sniper, she trains with Ibis, Egret, and Lightning. Ibis best demonstrates her raw power, functioning less like a conventional sniper rifle and more like siege artillery when supplied by her Trion.
Chika also uses Meteor, whose explosive effect becomes enormous because of her reserves. The resulting blasts can demolish large areas, alter terrain, and threaten multiple opponents simultaneously.
She possesses Side Effects associated with her exceptional Trion. One allows her to sense approaching enemies, particularly Neighbor threats, while another allows her to suppress or conceal her own Trion presence. These abilities contributed to her survival before she understood what Border or Trion were.
Because Chika initially cannot intentionally shoot people, Tamakoma develops alternative uses for her power. She performs Lead Bullet sniping, attaching Lead Bullet to Lightning so a successful hit weighs opponents down instead of damaging their Trion bodies. The combination is normally impractical because of its heavy Trion cost, but Chika can afford it.
Chika eventually proves capable of deliberately firing on human opponents when the situation demands it. Overcoming the psychological barrier transforms her from an extraordinary support Sniper into a direct scoring threat, since opponents can no longer assume that positioning within her line of fire is safe.
Story Role
Story Role
Chika knows Osamu before Yuuma's arrival and has lived for years with the knowledge that strange creatures are attracted to her. Her friend Aoba Harukawa believes her warnings and promises to help, only to disappear, while her brother Rinji Amatori later vanishes while attempting to enter the Neighborhood.
These disappearances convince Chika that involving other people only puts them at risk. When she finally explains the situation, Osamu and Yuuma bring her to Tamakoma, where Border can provide both protection and a possible route to finding the missing people.
Chika joins Tamakoma Second because B-Rank squads can compete for the right to join an Away Mission. Her immense Trion immediately gives the new team an unusual strategic asset, but her inability to shoot people prevents Osamu from treating her as a conventional Sniper.
During the Large-Scale Invasion, Aftokrator identifies Chika as a particularly valuable target because of her Trion. Much of the later phase of the battle revolves around protecting her from capture while enemy forces attempt to extract people with exceptional Trion reserves.
Rank Wars become the setting for Chika to experiment with alternative combat roles. Lead Bullet, terrain destruction, shielding, and massive bombardment allow her to influence matches while she gradually works through the emotional reasons behind her reluctance to fire directly at opponents.
By the end of Tamakoma Second's decisive B-Rank matches, Chika begins deliberately shooting opponents rather than relying entirely on non-damaging options. That change removes one of the squad's most exploitable tactical weaknesses just as its Away Team ambitions reach their critical stage.
Relationships
Relationships
Osamu Mikumo is Chika's longtime acquaintance, teammate, and captain. Rinji Amatori once asks Osamu Mikumo to protect Chika if something happens to him, contributing to Osamu's strong sense of responsibility toward her.
Yuuma Kuga becomes Chika's teammate and one of the people with whom she feels safest. Yuuma Kuga accepts her unusual abilities without making her feel defective and works naturally around the limitations she places on herself.
Rinji Amatori is Chika's older brother. His disappearance while pursuing a route into the Neighborhood becomes one of her principal reasons for wanting to join Border's Away Mission.
Aoba Harukawa is Chika's childhood friend and one of the first people to believe her claims about being targeted by strange beings. Aoba Harukawa's disappearance reinforces Chika's belief that asking others for help puts them in danger.
Reiji Kizaki becomes Chika's principal Sniper mentor at Tamakoma. Reiji Kizaki teaches her Border's long-range weapons and helps develop tactical uses for her extraordinary Trion.
Hyuse later joins Tamakoma Second and immediately recognizes the strategic importance of Chika's Trion. Hyuse is more direct than the rest of the team about demanding that she use her strength when necessary, contributing to the pressure that pushes her toward confronting her limitations.
Shiori Usami serves as Tamakoma Second's Operator and provides Chika with technical support, encouragement, and a comfortable older-sister presence within the branch.
