Chicchi

Chicchi is shy, innocent and intensely lonely. Prisoners have passed through the cell before, but their pain frightened her into hiding, leaving her without anyone with whom she could communicate.

Guts's ability to see her immediately interests her. Although initially cautious, she becomes playful once she realizes he will not hurt her and eagerly listens when he describes a field filled with flowers like her own.

Chicchi is extraordinarily selfless. Her desire to help Guts becomes more important to her than preserving the leaves upon which her own existence depends.

As the spirit of a flower, Chicchi is bound to the small area surrounding her plant and cannot simply leave the cell independently.

Her flower absorbs sunlight, allowing Chicchi to provide warmth in the freezing prison. She can also give Guts drops of dew when he needs water.

Most importantly, leaves from her flower possess healing properties. Placing them against Guts's injuries rapidly improves his condition and breaks his fever. The power is finite because the leaves are part of the flower sustaining her existence.

A younger Guts encounters Chicchi after being captured alongside other mercenaries and imprisoned. Initially wondering whether she is a hallucination brought on by his injuries, he discovers that her leaves genuinely heal his wounds.

Guts tells Chicchi that he saw a field filled with flowers resembling hers and promises to take her there once he escapes. Delighted, she continues healing him.

Chicchi uses all of her flower's remaining leaves to heal Guts during the night and disappears. After surviving his forced duel and escaping the castle, Guts carries the damaged flower to the field he promised to show her and leaves it among the other blossoms.

Guts is the only human Chicchi is shown befriending. She heals his wounds and shares her loneliness with him, while he promises to carry her flower somewhere she will no longer be alone.
