Cana Alberona

Cana is confident, blunt, sociable, competitive, and almost constantly seen drinking. Her tolerance is so extreme that consuming enormous quantities of alcohol rarely prevents her from thinking or fighting effectively.

She possesses a strong sense of loyalty beneath her rough habits. Cana may complain, argue, or tease guildmates, but when Fairy Tail is endangered she reliably places the guild above her own ambitions.

Her repeated failures to achieve S-Class status create considerable insecurity. Cana begins to believe that succeeding in the trial is necessary before she can confront a deeply personal issue she has hidden since childhood.

Cana uses Magic Card, channeling spells through enchanted cards. Different combinations produce attacks, elemental effects, restraints, tracking, communication, and fortune-telling, giving her an unusually adaptable magical style.

Her cards can be thrown as projectiles and used in large formations, allowing Cana to fight at range or support allies without approaching an opponent directly.

During the Tenrou Island events, Cana gains access to Fairy Glitter, one of Fairy Tail's Three Great Fairy Magics. Mavis Vermillion grants her the spell after recognizing her determination, giving Cana an attack capable of concentrating an enormous amount of magical energy onto a target.

Cana appears from the earliest guild chapters and participates in Fairy Tail's wars and celebrations while repeatedly pursuing promotion to S-Class.

Her most substantial early storyline occurs during the Tenrou Island S-Class Promotion Trial. She chooses Lucy as her partner and becomes increasingly desperate when another failed examination appears likely.

Cana's obsession with the exam is tied to Gildarts Clive. He is her father, but he does not know she is his daughter. Cana joined Fairy Tail as a child specifically to find him and eventually decided she would reveal the truth only after becoming an S-Class mage.

She ultimately abandons her personal goal when Lucy and the other guild members are endangered. Cana later tells Gildarts the truth without having passed the examination, and he accepts her enthusiastically as his daughter.

Gildarts Clive is connected to Cana through the secret she carries for years: he is her father, although he does not learn this until the Tenrou Island arc.

Cornelia is Cana's mother. After Cornelia's death, Cana discovers Gildarts's name among her mother's belongings and goes to Fairy Tail to find him.

Lucy Heartfilia becomes Cana's partner during the S-Class Promotion Trial and one of the friends whose safety eventually matters more to Cana than passing.

Makarov Dreyar is the guild master who repeatedly selects Cana as a candidate for S-Class promotion.

Mavis Vermillion allows Cana to use Fairy Glitter during the crisis on Tenrou Island.
