Billy Horide

Horide is loud, enthusiastic and thoroughly committed to Seibu's western theme. He fires his pistols for emphasis and treats aggressive offense as the natural answer to most football problems.

His coaching advice can be more inspirational than technically useful. Players who interpret his instructions too literally can create problems for themselves, particularly the exceptionally literal Tetsuma.

Despite those comedic shortcomings, Horide presides over one of Tokyo's strongest offensive teams and provides facilities that allow his players to train seriously.

Horide's philosophy centers on rapid offense. Seibu is built around the passing combination of Shien Mushanokoji and Tetsuma Jo, supplemented by Riku's running.

He is also an accomplished marksman, fitting the team's gunfighter motif. His ranch provides Seibu with extensive space for conditioning and football training in the United States.

Horide's coaching is less methodical than that of figures such as Shoji, but his emphasis on aggressive scoring fits the personnel available to the Wild Gunmen.

Horide appears as Seibu's coach while the Wild Gunmen establish themselves as one of Deimon's most dangerous offensive rivals. Their quick-strike style gives the series a team whose identity contrasts with Oujou's defense-first football.

His Houston ranch later becomes important when Japanese players train in the United States. The location expands Seibu's cowboy imagery into an actual American setting.

Shien Mushanokoji is Horide's quarterback and the player responsible for directing Seibu's rapid passing offense.

Tetsuma Jo is one of Horide's principal receivers. Tetsuma Jo's tendency to follow instructions literally can turn Horide's careless advice into unexpected problems.

Riku Kaitani adds an elite rushing threat to Horide's offense and broadens Seibu beyond its original emphasis on passing.
