Personality
Personality
Ashil is proud, possessive and fiercely devoted to Hao. He considers himself strong enough to eliminate Yoh's group and places considerable confidence in Siegfried's regenerative abilities.
His loyalty is complicated by jealousy. Ashil is troubled by Hao's unusual interest in Yoh, and his desire to remove that perceived rival becomes stronger than his willingness to obey instructions. Although Hao wants Yoh kept alive, Ashil deliberately attempts to kill him, rationalizing the attack as an accident.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Ashil is a capable shaman whose Guardian Ghost is Siegfried. Siegfried's most troublesome attribute is its capacity to regenerate after sustaining damage, allowing Ashil to continue fighting even after opponents apparently destroy the spirit.
This regeneration encourages Ashil's confidence against Yoh's group. The combination of a resilient Guardian Ghost and Ashil's aggressive use of it makes him difficult to defeat through ordinary attrition.
Siegfried's regeneration is not limitless against sufficiently overwhelming spiritual power. Marco's Archangel Michael is capable of destroying both Ashil and his spirit outright.
Story Role
Story Role
Ashil appears during the 2001 anime's American journey as one of Hao's followers. He takes over narrative functions that belong to other characters in the manga, including becoming the first of Hao's followers shown directly facing the X-Laws' lethal judgment.
He confronts Yoh and his companions despite Hao's interest in keeping Yoh alive. Ashil's jealousy turns the encounter into an attempt to remove Yoh permanently, and the battle continues as Siegfried repeatedly recovers from damage.
After Yoh and his allies destroy Siegfried again, Marco Lasso arrives and attacks with Michael. The Archangel blasts through Ashil and Siegfried, and the resulting attack destroys them both. In the anime, this makes Ashil the first of Hao's followers killed on-screen by the X-Laws, replacing Boris Tepes Dracula in that narrative position.
Relationships
Relationships
Hao Asakura is Ashil's master and the focus of his intense devotion. His feelings are strong enough that Hao's interest in someone else provokes open jealousy.
Yoh Asakura becomes the object of Ashil's jealousy because of Hao's unusual interest in him. Ashil consequently ignores the intention that Yoh should survive and attempts to kill him.
Siegfried is Ashil's Guardian Ghost and his principal weapon in battle.
Marco Lasso confronts Ashil as a representative of the X-Laws and destroys him with Michael.
Michael is the Archangel whose attack overwhelms Siegfried's regenerative ability and destroys Ashil.
