Anubis

Anubis is ruthless, calculating, and consumed by a desire for power. He treats the people around him primarily as tools, preferring to manipulate existing rivalries rather than immediately confronting his enemies himself.

His confidence borders on arrogance. Anubis believes his ancient power places him beyond ordinary duelists and shows little respect for human resistance once he begins acting openly.

He is particularly willing to exploit Kaiba's obsession with defeating Yugi. Rather than creating that rivalry, Anubis recognizes an existing weakness and turns it into the mechanism through which he hopes to regain his full strength.

Anubis possesses supernatural abilities associated with the Pyramid of Light. He can influence the environment surrounding a Duel, interfere with the connection between Yugi and the Pharaoh, and use his ancient power to affect events beyond ordinary Duel Monsters rules.

His Sphinx strategy includes Andro Sphinx, Sphinx Teleia and Theinen the Great Sphinx. Pyramid of Light is central to the strategy, supporting the summoning and operation of these enormous monsters.

After his duel is lost, Anubis abandons the constraints of Duel Monsters and physically transforms into a monstrous jackal-like form. This manifestation gives him direct destructive power outside the card game.

Anubis enters the modern story through the Pyramid of Light and cards discovered by Kaiba. Knowing that Kaiba is determined to defeat Yugi, he manipulates the circumstances surrounding their rematch.

The resulting duel allows Anubis's power to interfere with the battlefield. His influence becomes increasingly apparent as the Pyramid of Light isolates the duelists and threatens the Pharaoh.

Anubis ultimately manifests directly and takes control of the confrontation after Kaiba can no longer serve his purpose. He duels Yugi personally using his Sphinx monsters but is defeated.

Refusing to accept the result, Anubis transforms into a physical monster and attacks directly. Kaiba's Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon destroys the Pyramid's power and Anubis along with it.

Yugi Mutou becomes Anubis's principal obstacle because of Yugi's connection to the Pharaoh and the Millennium Puzzle.

Seto Kaiba is manipulated by Anubis through his determination to defeat Yugi. Anubis uses Seto Kaiba's rivalry with Yugi Mutou to advance his own return.

Atem is connected to Anubis through the ancient conflict underlying the Pyramid of Light. Anubis regards Atem as the enemy standing between him and the power he seeks.
