Amanai

Amanai appears lethargic and lacking in confidence, creating an initially misleading impression of someone ill-suited to a senior position. His relaxed exterior contrasts sharply with the authority attached to his three-star rank.

When performing his duties, however, Amanai is extremely strict. He places considerable importance on Recette's rules and expects applicants and agents to operate within them. His standards during the entrance examination reflect the seriousness of an organization responsible for policing people with potentially destructive supernatural abilities.

That strictness can put him into conflict with characters willing to bend rules according to circumstances. Amanai is less interested in personal sympathy than in whether a Sweets User poses a potential threat and whether Recette's regulations require action.

Amanai is a three-star Recette agent, the organization's highest established rank. This places him among Recette's elite personnel and indicates that his combat and law-enforcement abilities have been recognized at the highest operational level.

Recette agents normally fight using oversized retractable cutlery designed for confronting Sweets Users. As an experienced three-star officer, Amanai is capable of operating against opponents whose supernatural candy abilities make ordinary law enforcement ineffective.

Unlike Toka Irie, Amanai has not been established as one of Recette's Sweets Users. The series therefore does not attribute a Toy Toy Candy ability to him, and his known authority comes from his rank and conventional Recette training.

Amanai appears during Tsumugi Minase's attempt to join Recette. He serves as an examiner during the enlistment test in which Tsumugi is partnered with Mamoru Umino.

The examination is supposed to assess the applicants through controlled combat, but an anti-Recette group intervenes and transforms the test into a genuine emergency. Amanai consequently becomes involved in dealing with a situation that exceeds the intended boundaries of the examination.

As a senior agent, Amanai later becomes involved in Recette's response to the unresolved questions surrounding Tsumugi. After her identity as another lollipop Sweets User becomes impossible to ignore, Amanai moves to arrest her according to Recette's rules. Mamoru objects and defends Tsumugi, while the escalating confrontation coincides with the final struggle against the person responsible for Tokyo's destruction.

Tsumugi Minase first encounters Amanai as one of the senior Recette personnel overseeing her entrance examination. Their relationship later becomes adversarial when her concealed lollipop ability gives Amanai grounds to treat her as a suspect and attempt to take her into custody.

Mamoru Umino participates in the examination Amanai supervises. The two later disagree over Tsumugi, with Mamoru defending her when Amanai attempts to enforce Recette's rules against her.

Toka Irie is another three-star Recette officer and one of the organization's elite agents. Both operate near the top of Recette's ranking system, although Irie's status as a powerful Sweets User distinguishes her combat abilities from Amanai's established skill set.
