Akira Mayuzumi

Mayuzumi is serious about competition and carries himself as Takezono's senior leader. He is less emotionally volatile than Oda and helps provide a stabilizing presence when the younger player's personal rivalry with Sakuragi begins influencing the atmosphere of the game.

His characterization is primarily tied to basketball leadership. He expects his teammates to compete as a unit and understands that Takezono's success cannot depend entirely on its talented first-year.

Mayuzumi is Takezono's starting point guard and is responsible for directing the offense. His senior experience and ball handling make him the natural organizer of the team's perimeter play.

At 178 cm and 61 kg, he relies more on guard skills than physical dominance. He distributes the ball among Takezono's larger frontcourt players and helps create opportunities for Oda.

No signature technique comparable to those of the series' elite guards is established for him.

Mayuzumi's principal prominence comes from the anime-related Takezono material, particularly the first theatrical film. Takezono faces Shohoku in a practice match centered heavily on the history between Sakuragi and Oda.

Mayuzumi provides the senior leadership around that rivalry, keeping Takezono focused on the basketball game rather than solely on Oda's personal confrontation with Sakuragi.

Takezono later reaches the upper stages of the Kanagawa preliminaries before meeting Kainan, establishing it as a respectable prefectural team even though it does not belong to the top tier represented by Kainan, Shoyo, Ryonan and Shohoku.

Tatsumasa Oda is Takezono's talented first-year center and one of the important offensive players Mayuzumi leads as captain.

Yoshihide Miura, Isamu Yuuki and Kenichi Uzaki are fellow members of Takezono's starting unit.

Hanamichi Sakuragi becomes an opposing player when Shohoku faces Takezono in the theatrical-film storyline.
