Personality
Personality
Adonis is quiet, timid and obedient. He does not share his father's aggressive temperament and struggles under the severe standards Julius imposes upon him.
He continues practicing despite being treated harshly during sword training. His caretaker recognizes that Adonis misses his mother and needs affection, while Julius insists that severity is necessary to prepare his son for adulthood.
Adonis's vulnerability makes the contrast between him and the politically ambitious adults surrounding him particularly pronounced. He is being prepared for a future others have designed without any indication that he personally desires it.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Adonis receives formal sword training from Julius, who intends him to become a capable noble warrior and eventually inherit command of the White Dragon Knights.
At thirteen, however, he remains a novice. His training scene emphasizes the difference between his father's expectations and his current ability, with Julius easily overpowering and chastising him.
Adonis has no supernatural abilities and no established battlefield experience.
Story Role

Adonis appears when Guts infiltrates Julius's residence on Griffith's orders. Before carrying out his mission, Guts watches Julius training the boy and is reminded of his own painful childhood with Gambino.
Julius intends Adonis to succeed him as commander of the White Dragon Knights. He even imagines a political future in which his son might marry Charlotte and ultimately rule Midland.
After assassinating Julius, Guts hears someone entering and instinctively strikes before identifying the newcomer. The person is Adonis, whom Guts accidentally impales. The boy dies holding Guts's hand, leaving Guts horrified by what he has done.
