Zhivago

Zhivago is streetwise and irreverent but also deeply compassionate. He shares food with Ban while they are prisoners despite having no obligation to help him, recognizes how badly the boy has been treated and offers him a way out.

His profession does not prevent him from having a strong moral and paternal side. He teaches Ban to steal, but he also gives him affection and trust that Ban has rarely experienced. Zhivago becomes proud when Ban reciprocates that trust.

Zhivago carries profound guilt surrounding his family. He considers both Ban and his biological son important, and the impossible choice between them becomes the defining regret of his life.

Zhivago is a werefox Beastman capable of assuming a human appearance. This disguise allows him to move among humans without exposing his true nature.

His magic, Hide Cloak, assists in concealment. Combined with years of experience as a thief, Zhivago is adept at escaping confinement, stealing and avoiding detection.

He is also agile and capable in close combat, particularly during his younger years. His skills are practical rather than comparable to the supernatural destructive abilities of Holy Knights or Demons.

Zhivago meets the young Ban in Aberdeen Prison. After sharing his food with the boy, he escapes with him and brings Ban to his hideout. He teaches him how to steal and becomes the first genuine parental figure in Ban's life.

Zhivago also tells Ban about the Fountain of Youth in the Fairy King's Forest, indirectly setting Ban on the path that will eventually lead him to Elaine and immortality.

When Ban is captured after a theft, Zhivago learns at the same time that hunters are pursuing his biological son, Selion. Forced to choose, he goes to Selion but arrives too late to save him. Believing Ban was also lost, Zhivago spends decades carrying the guilt of losing both boys.

Decades later, an elderly Zhivago encounters Ban and Jericho. Ban eventually recognizes him, allowing father and son to reconcile before Zhivago dies. When Melascula later attempts to consume Ban's soul, Zhivago sacrifices his own soul to save his adopted son.

Ban is Zhivago's adopted son. Zhivago rescues him from Aberdeen Prison, teaches him thievery and provides the parental affection missing from Ban's childhood. Their reunion decades later allows both to understand that the other survived the separation they had believed permanent.

Selion is Zhivago's biological son. Zhivago chooses to go to Selion when both of his sons are endangered, but reaches him only shortly before Selion dies.

Jericho accompanies Ban when he encounters Zhivago again and witnesses their reunion.

Melascula attempts to consume Ban's soul after separating it from his body, prompting Zhivago's soul to intervene and sacrifice itself in Ban's place.
