Zenmai Arakawa

Zenmai's individual temperament has not been explored in detail. His position as a zenza places him among the junior professionals responsible for backstage preparation, opening performances and the routine work that keeps a rakugo program running.

The respectful language used toward him by a newer colleague indicates seniority within that junior cohort, even though he remains below the futatsume and shin'uchi ranks.

Zenmai has completed the training necessary to work professionally as a zenza. That rank requires familiarity with basic storytelling, theater etiquette and backstage duties, though the manga has not assigned him a distinctive performance style or signature story.

His continued place in Zensho's school indicates that he is developing under a shin'uchi known particularly for comic rakugo.

Zenmai appears as part of the wider Arakawa School ensemble, helping the series depict the ranks and secondary schools that exist beyond Akane's immediate circle. His presence expands Zensho's group from its senior performers to the apprentices completing its everyday work.

Zensho Arakawa is Zenmai's master and the head of his school. Yuzen Arakawa is a senior pupil within the same lineage.

Taison Arakawa calls him “Zenmai Ani-san,” an honorific expressing the younger performer's respect for him as a senior colleague.
