Youhei

Youhei is stubborn, brave and deeply devoted to his father. He has absorbed many of his father's sayings and treats them as principles by which he should live, giving him a determination that can easily become recklessness.

His belief that the Kraken killed his father leaves little room for uncertainty. He wants revenge and is willing to attack a supernatural creature despite being an ordinary child with no exorcist training.

Youhei also proves compassionate once his assumptions are challenged. His anger is rooted in grief rather than cruelty, and he is capable of accepting a different view of the Kraken when confronted with the truth.

Youhei is an ordinary human child with no supernatural powers or exorcist training.

He is physically active and comfortable around the sea, and he demonstrates considerable courage when confronting the creature he believes took his father. That courage, however, does not give him the ability to safely fight a demon on his own.

His role emphasizes the difference between determination and trained exorcism: Rin and the others must protect him precisely because courage alone is not enough against a Kraken.

Youhei appears when Rin, Renzou and Izumo travel to a coastal area for an Exwire assignment. The students initially find themselves working at the Ocean House before learning about the Kraken troubling the region.

Youhei explains that his father disappeared after going out to confront the creature and declares his intention to take revenge. When the Kraken appears, he attempts to fight it himself and has to be protected by Rin.

Youhei's father unexpectedly returns and reveals that the Kraken did not kill him. Both had become lost, and the supposed enemies ultimately cooperated in order to return home. The revelation ends Youhei's revenge quest and reframes the "Demon of the Sea" as a misunderstood creature rather than a murderous monster.

Youhei no Chichi is Youhei's father and the person he admires most. His disappearance drives Youhei's desire for revenge against the Kraken.

Rin Okumura tries to stop Youhei from recklessly confronting the Kraken and protects him when the creature appears.

Renzou Shima meets Youhei during the coastal assignment and helps monitor the situation.

Izumo Kamiki is another of the Exwires assigned to the area; Youhei rescues her when she nearly drowns.
