Yocchan

Yocchan is boastful and enjoys throwing his weight around among other children. Calling himself Kabukicho's king reflects both his confidence and the small-scale territorial rivalries of the neighborhood's younger residents.

He has a genuine enthusiasm for rhinoceros beetles and participates seriously in children's beetle battles. His interest becomes important when Kagura enters the same competitive world.

Yocchan is ultimately an ordinary neighborhood boy rather than a dangerous delinquent. His bullying and bragging are usually presented on the scale of children's arguments rather than serious criminal behavior.

Yocchan has no supernatural abilities or formal combat training.

His principal competitive skill is raising and battling rhinoceros beetles. He understands the rules of beetle fighting and owns specimens capable of competing against those brought by other Kabukicho children.

His experience with beetles makes him more knowledgeable than Kagura when she first enters one of their matches, although the arrival of the Shinsengumi quickly turns the children's hobby into a much larger competition.

Yocchan appears among the children of Kabukicho in several early stories. His self-declared position as neighborhood king establishes a comic counterpart to Kagura, who considers herself the district's queen.

He receives his most prominent role during the rhinoceros-beetle story, when Kagura challenges the local children using one of her own beetles. Sougo Okita then enters with an exceptionally strong beetle and disrupts the children's competition.

The search for a valuable rhinoceros beetle subsequently brings the Yorozuya and Shinsengumi into the same forest, turning Yocchan's hobby into the setup for a much larger confrontation.

He also appears around Tatsumi's early story, reinforcing his place among the recurring children of Kabukicho.

Kagura is Yocchan's neighborhood counterpart, styling herself the "Queen of Kabuki District" against his claim to be its king.

Sougo Okita enters Yocchan's beetle-fighting circle with his own powerful rhinoceros beetle.

Tatsumi encounters Yocchan and another neighborhood child while she is hiding in a rubbish bin during her attempt to catch an arsonist.
