Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yami Bakura

闇の獏良

Story Role

Yami Bakura first emerges when Ryou invites Yuugi and his friends to play a tabletop role-playing game. The spirit takes control and transforms the game into a Shadow Game, trapping the souls of the participants inside their playing pieces. Yuugi and Yami Yuugi defeat him, but the Millennium Ring ensures that the threat does not disappear permanently.

He returns during Duelist Kingdom and Battle City, often pursuing his own agenda while larger conflicts occupy Yuugi's attention. During Battle City, he enters the tournament and becomes entangled with Marik's campaign for the Egyptian God Cards.

Yami Bakura's true importance becomes increasingly apparent as the mystery of the Millennium Items deepens. His repeated defeats never permanently remove him, and his interest in the Pharaoh's memories points toward a conflict much older than the modern Duel Monsters tournaments.

In the final arc, Yami Bakura draws the Pharaoh into a supernatural role-playing game based on ancient Egypt. His plan is connected to the resurrection of Zorc Necrophadius, while the Millennium Items become pieces in a struggle that recreates the events surrounding their creation.

Yami Bakura is ultimately defeated when Atem recovers his true name and summons Horakhty, whose power destroys Zorc. The spirit's long-running campaign ends with the destruction of the evil force behind the final Shadow Game.
