Wasuke Itadori

Wasuke is caring, stubborn, irritable, and deeply concerned about Yuuji despite being uncomfortable expressing affection directly. His tendency to yell at Yuuji for visiting every day or bringing flowers contrasts with the obvious importance he places on his grandson's future.

He appears to regret the isolation surrounding his own life. Few people visit him in the hospital, and his last major lesson to Yuuji specifically warns against ending up alone.

Wasuke also knows more about the circumstances surrounding Yuuji's parents than Yuuji does. He attempts to discuss them before his condition worsens, but Yuuji dismisses the subject because he has little interest in learning about parents he never knew.

His concern regarding Kaori Itadori is particularly pronounced in the manga's later family flashback, where he warns his son that something about the woman with him is dangerous.

Wasuke is an ordinary human with no established cursed technique, cursed-energy training, or ability to perceive curses.

His importance comes through his influence on Yuuji rather than supernatural power. By raising Yuuji and emphasizing responsibility toward other people, Wasuke provides the moral language through which his grandson initially interprets the burden of becoming Sukuna's vessel.

The story does not establish Wasuke's profession, martial background, or any exceptional physical ability.

Wasuke appears at the beginning of the story while hospitalized in Sendai. Yuuji visits him regularly despite Wasuke's complaints and structures his school schedule partly around being available for those visits.

Wasuke attempts to tell Yuuji about his parents, but Yuuji refuses, saying he sees Wasuke as his father figure and does not need information about people he never knew.

Wasuke dies shortly afterward. Before dying, he tells Yuuji that because Yuuji is strong, he should use that strength to help people and make sure he is surrounded by others when his own time comes.

Those words follow Yuuji directly into the incident surrounding Sukuna's finger. His decision to risk himself for Sasaki and Iguchi and later accept the responsibility of consuming Sukuna's fingers is repeatedly connected to the desire to help people and give deaths meaning.

Later flashbacks reveal that Wasuke had warned his son Jin about the woman appearing as Yuuji's mother, suggesting that he recognized something was wrong with Kaori's circumstances before Yuuji's birth.

Yuuji Itadori is Wasuke's grandson and the child he raises. Wasuke's final advice becomes one of Yuuji's central motivations.

Jin Itadori is Wasuke's son and Yuuji's father. Wasuke argues with him over the circumstances surrounding his family.

Kaori Itadori is Jin's wife and Yuuji's mother. Wasuke expresses fear and suspicion toward the woman occupying Kaori's place after her apparent death.

Kenjaku is later revealed to have inhabited Kaori's body, explaining the danger Wasuke sensed around his son's partner.
