Videl

Videl is confident, determined, inquisitive, and strongly motivated by justice. Growing up as the daughter of Earth's publicly celebrated martial-arts champion gives her confidence in her abilities, but she is far less interested in celebrity than her father. She spends her free time helping police deal with criminals rather than simply enjoying her family's wealth.

She is also exceptionally persistent. Once she notices inconsistencies around Gohan, she pieces together clues until she uncovers his secret. Her stubbornness extends to training: after learning that ordinary humans can control ki, she works until she can perform sustained flight.

Videl is already an accomplished martial artist when introduced and is considerably more capable than Mr. Satan in genuine combat. She possesses strong physical conditioning, agility, and practical experience from fighting criminals around Satan City.

Gohan teaches her basic ki control, beginning with sensing and manipulating her internal energy. She learns to levitate and then fly, progressing quickly enough to surprise Gohan. Unlike the series' major superhuman fighters, Videl does not become a heavy user of energy blasts in the original manga.

Videl meets Gohan at Orange Star High School and becomes suspicious of his extraordinary athletic ability. She later encounters the Great Saiyaman during a crime and tricks him into revealing that he is Gohan. The official Dragon Ball profile specifically identifies her questioning as the means by which she uncovers his identity.

She agrees to keep his secret if he enters the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai and teaches her to fly. At the tournament she faces Spopovich, whose unnatural resilience and strength make their match brutally one-sided despite Videl's skill.

Videl and Gohan eventually become a couple, marry, and have a daughter, Pan. In later stories she largely leaves frontline combat behind while remaining connected to Earth's defenders.

Mr. Satan is Videl's father. He is highly protective of her and initially sets absurdly high standards for anyone she might date, while Videl privately recognizes that his public reputation exaggerates his actual fighting ability.

Gohan begins as Videl's suspicious new classmate and becomes her martial-arts instructor after she uncovers his Great Saiyaman identity. Their friendship develops into romance, and they later marry.

Pan is Videl and Gohan's daughter. Goku, Chi-Chi, and Goten become members of her extended family through her marriage to Gohan. Spopovich is her opponent in the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai and subjects her to one of the most punishing fights of her career.
