Vanessa Enoteca

Vanessa is carefree, sociable, flirtatious, and an enthusiastic drinker. She is comfortable lounging around the Black Bull hideout in revealing clothing and rarely worries about maintaining the decorum expected of a Magic Knight.

Despite that casual exterior, Vanessa is perceptive and deeply loyal. She readily acts as an older-sister figure toward younger Black Bulls, particularly Noelle Silva, and can become focused immediately when her companions are endangered.

Her devotion to the squad stems partly from her upbringing. The Witch Queen confined Vanessa because she foresaw the extraordinary power that Vanessa might eventually develop. Yami's arrival in the Witches' Forest inspired Vanessa to leave her cage and choose her own life with the Black Bulls.

Vanessa uses Thread Magic, creating and manipulating magical threads that are difficult to see and useful for both combat and support. She can control objects, redirect allies, repair clothing, and manipulate movements from a distance.

Her threads become particularly effective in coordinated battles. Alongside Finral Roulacase, Vanessa can alter Asta's movements while Finral changes his position, allowing him to attack at speeds and angles he could not reproduce alone.

Vanessa eventually awakens the Red Thread of Fate, taking the form of a red cat named Rouge. Rouge can interfere with fate itself, changing unfavorable outcomes involving people Vanessa considers her companions. The ability consumes considerable mana but can effectively negate events that would otherwise injure or kill her allies.

Vanessa initially serves as one of the Black Bulls' experienced members, accompanying younger recruits and helping them adapt to the squad. Her Thread Magic proves especially important during the Underwater Temple battle against Vetto.

When Asta's arms are left severely damaged, Vanessa returns to the Witches' Forest seeking a cure from the Witch Queen. The journey forces her to confront the controlling figure from whom she escaped.

The Witch Queen attempts to manipulate Asta into killing his companions, causing Vanessa's desperation to awaken Rouge. Her new magic changes the outcome repeatedly until the Witch Queen abandons her attempt to control them.

Witch Queen raised Vanessa in the Witches' Forest and recognized her potential for fate-altering magic. She confined Vanessa for years to force that power to awaken under her control.

Yami Sukehiro gave Vanessa the opportunity to leave the Witches' Forest and join the Black Bulls. She consequently associates him and the squad with the freedom she had been denied.

Noelle Silva receives encouragement and guidance from Vanessa, who treats her like a younger sister.

Finral Roulacase is a frequent combat partner whose Spatial Magic combines exceptionally well with Vanessa's threads.

Asta becomes one of the people Vanessa is most determined to protect. His injuries are what motivate her return to the Witches' Forest.

Charmy Pappitson, Magna Swing, Luck Voltia, and the other Black Bulls form the unconventional family Vanessa chooses for herself.
