Urara

Urara is cheerful, outgoing and fiercely supportive of Kirara. She understands that her older sister feels insecure about her appearance and lack of social experience, and she repeatedly tries to push Kirara toward greater confidence rather than condemning her for using Urara's photograph.

Her encounter with Sougo Okita reveals an unexpected masochistic streak. Okita treats their supposed date as an opportunity to humiliate her, putting a collar and leash on her, but Urara responds enthusiastically rather than becoming offended.

Urara possesses no supernatural abilities or formal combat training.

She is nevertheless physically energetic and forceful when circumstances demand it. During the confusion surrounding Kirara, Urara follows Okita's commands with enough enthusiasm to damage a Shinsengumi patrol car while pursuing her sister.

Kirara sends a message in a bottle using a photograph of Urara because she believes nobody would answer if she included her own picture. Shimura Shinpachi finds the letter and consequently assumes that Urara is his correspondent.

Urara learns what her sister has done but is more pleased that Kirara has finally connected with someone than angry about the deception. When the correspondence produces a face-to-face meeting, the Yorozuya arrange for Okita to impersonate Shinpachi while Urara attends in Kirara's place.

The substitution goes spectacularly wrong when Urara becomes attracted to Okita's mistreatment. Meanwhile, Kirara's insecurities intensify until the entire group is forced to confront the lies surrounding the letters.

Kirara is Urara's older sister. Urara cares deeply for her and repeatedly encourages her to become more confident and socially independent.

Sougo Okita impersonates Shinpachi during Urara's date and unexpectedly awakens her masochistic side.

Shimura Shinpachi initially believes Urara is the woman writing to him because Kirara used her photograph.

Sakata Gintoki becomes involved in arranging the increasingly complicated meeting between the two supposed pen pals.
