Ukobach

Ukobach is proud, temperamental and fiercely protective of his kitchen. He takes food seriously and reacts badly when other people interfere with his cooking or disrespect the work involved in preparing a meal.

He is largely nonverbal, but Rin learns to understand him through gestures and their shared culinary instincts. Ukobach softens considerably once he realizes that Rin genuinely loves cooking rather than simply invading his workspace.

His anger can become comically disproportionate. When food is ruined, Ukobach may treat the responsible people as ingredients themselves, although Rin is capable of reasoning with him by appealing to the principle that cooking should make people happy.

Ukobach is an exceptional chef capable of preparing elaborate meals for humans and demons. Cooking is not simply his occupation but the central expression of his identity as a stove spirit.

He can dramatically enlarge his body, transforming from a small kitchen demon into a much larger and physically stronger form. The transformation makes him intimidating enough to threaten humans who have angered him.

His abilities remain comparatively domestic beside the combat-focused powers of many familiars, but his supernatural strength means that provoking him inside his kitchen can still be dangerous.

Ukobach appears in the anime when Rin and Yukio discover who has been preparing the meals in their otherwise nearly empty dormitory. Rin's unauthorized use of the kitchen angers him and creates a dispute between the two cooks.

Their shared passion eventually resolves the conflict, and Ukobach becomes friendly with Rin. He later assists with other cooking-related situations, including preparations for Izumo Kamiki's birthday.

Ukobach is an anime-original character and does not occupy this role in the manga continuity.

Mephisto Pheles is Ukobach's master and assigns him to prepare meals at the dormitory.

Rin Okumura becomes Ukobach's friend through their shared love of cooking.

Yukio Okumura is one of the residents for whom Ukobach regularly prepares meals.

Konekomaru Miwa works with Ukobach and Rin when they prepare a birthday cake.

Izumo Kamiki is the intended recipient of the birthday cake Ukobach helps prepare.
