Uchino

Uchino is kind, attentive and conscientious with her patients. She habitually treats the people under her care with a smile, earning the admiration of Taizou Hasegawa while he is hospitalized.

Romantically, she is shy and insecure. Rather than confessing directly, Uchino watches her crush from a distance and initially settles for the idea of preserving a memory of the person she loves. This hesitancy convinces Hasegawa and the Yorozuya that she needs their assistance.

Uchino has no established supernatural powers or combat techniques. Her professional skills are those of a hospital nurse, and she is shown caring for patients at Big Edo Hospital.

Her role is entirely civilian, with the storyline centered on her romantic feelings and the Yorozuya's interference rather than combat.

Uchino works at Big Edo Hospital when Hasegawa, Sakata Gintoki, Kagura and Shimura Shinpachi are patients there. Hasegawa notices that the normally attentive nurse has become distracted and follows her with Gintoki. They see her watching the area occupied by Kotarou Katsura and Elizabeth and draw what seems to them an obvious conclusion.

The group consequently devises increasingly absurd methods intended to bring Uchino and Katsura together. Their entire premise is wrong: the person Uchino has fallen for is Elizabeth, not Katsura. She eventually confesses her feelings to Elizabeth after Hasegawa encourages her to take the chance.

Elizabeth is the person Uchino secretly loves. Her habit of watching Elizabeth while he is beside Katsura causes everyone else to misidentify her crush, but she ultimately reveals that her feelings were directed toward Elizabeth all along.

Taizou Hasegawa admires Uchino's kindness as his nurse and becomes invested in helping her confess. His well-intentioned interference is based on the mistaken belief that she loves Katsura.

Kotarou Katsura is mistakenly identified as Uchino's romantic interest because he is beside Elizabeth whenever she watches from a distance.

Sakata Gintoki, Kagura and Shimura Shinpachi become involved in the misguided effort to arrange Uchino's supposed romance with Kotarou Katsura.
