Tomabechi

Tomabechi is practical, technically minded and more interested in useful systems than displays of physical dominance. His value to the group comes from being able to make and maintain things other survivors cannot.

He approaches the catastrophe as a technical problem: weapons can be constructed, signals can be monitored and scattered communities can be connected if the right equipment survives.

His radio work also gives him a broader view of the outbreak than survivors who know only what is happening directly around them.

Tomabechi is proficient at constructing improvised weapons for Kurusu's followers. This allows the group to arm more people despite the extreme difficulty of legally obtaining firearms in Japan.

He is also an experienced amateur-radio operator. Radio remains capable of reaching people over considerable distances without depending on intact cellular or internet infrastructure.

Combining those skills makes Tomabechi both an armorer and communications specialist—two roles of unusually high value in a collapsed society.

Tomabechi appears at the hideout associated with Kurusu's growing movement. While other members fight or recruit, he provides technical infrastructure.

His radio equipment connects the hideout to reports from elsewhere and demonstrates that isolated groups of survivors are continuing to communicate even as conventional society disappears.

As Kurusu's movement becomes increasingly fractured and violent, Tomabechi's practical skills remain valuable regardless of which personalities dominate the group around him.

Kurusu is the figure around whose movement Tomabechi's survivor network is organized. Tomabechi supports Kurusu's followers by manufacturing weapons and maintaining communications.
