Teppei Sugihara

Teppei is quiet and initially has difficulty finding a social group after transferring to Kaimei High. His reserved demeanor makes him an easy target for intimidation, particularly when confronted by someone connected to his childhood.

He wants to belong somewhere but does not immediately know how to build those connections. The Sket Dan's intervention helps him begin integrating into his new school.

His characterization remains fundamentally that of Sket Dance rather than Gintama; the crossover uses him primarily because of his connection to the other series and his voice actor.

Teppei possesses no supernatural powers. He is an ordinary high-school student with an interest in basketball.

With assistance from the Sket Dan, he finds a place in Kaimei High's basketball club, giving him the social foothold he was seeking after transferring.

His relevance to Gintama does not involve combat. Instead, his presence supplies one of the crossover's production jokes because he shares Daisuke Sakaguchi as a voice actor with Shimura Shinpachi.

Teppei originates in Sket Dance, where he transfers into Kaimei High's Class 2-C and becomes one of the first students helped by the newly formed Sket Dan.

In the Gintama and Sket Dance collaboration, the Yorozuya encounter the Sket Dan as both groups argue over the similarities between their respective series. Teppei appears as part of the crossover's broader use of Sket Dance characters.

His shared voice actor with Shinpachi becomes particularly suitable for the crossover's jokes about production, casting and the similarities between the two Weekly Shounen Jump comedies.

Shimura Shinpachi is Teppei's Gintama counterpart for the crossover's voice-actor joke, since both are voiced by Daisuke Sakaguchi.
