Taka-tin is relaxed, confident and remarkably unfazed by the absurd competition into which Sakata Gintoki recruits him. He accepts the role of substitute with little concern for whether anyone will believe he is actually Taka-chin.
He is strongly motivated by money and frequently treats his time as a commodity. His limited understanding of the competition and of Tsuu Terakado does not prevent him from participating enthusiastically.
Taka-tin also has an almost inexplicable attachment to French bread, which becomes both food and an improvised weapon.

Taka-tin possesses considerable physical strength. During the fan-club race, he uses a loaf of French bread with enough force to contribute to the destruction of a bridge and scatter competing participants.
He is not knowledgeable about Otsuu, which should make him a liability during the trivia round. Instead, his unrelated remarks accidentally correspond to several correct answers.
His large physique and endurance allow him to remain competitive alongside experienced fighters despite apparently being an ordinary civilian.

During the Otsuu Fan Club Arc, Shinpachi's group competes against the Tsusengumi led by Toushirou Hijikata. When Taka-chin is injured during the race, Gintoki returns with Taka-tin and attempts to pass the enormous foreigner off as their original teammate.
Sagaru Yamazaki recognizes the substitution immediately, but circumstances surrounding the Shinsengumi team's own rule-breaking allow Taka-tin to remain.
Taka-tin advances with Gintoki and Kagura into later rounds. During the Otsuu quiz, his requests and unrelated comments accidentally produce correct answers, keeping Shinpachi's team competitive despite his complete lack of fan knowledge.
