Seizou Kumanaku

Seizou is meticulous, earnest and intensely disturbed by poor hygiene. Unlike the other 1st Division members, who regard toilet-cleaning duty as humiliating, he approaches it with enthusiasm and sees the filthy facilities as evidence of a larger disciplinary problem.

He is sincere enough about cleanliness to propose a full "Toilet Revolution" to Toushirou Hijikata. Even when Sougo Okita's suggestions become increasingly absurd, Seizou continues searching for practical ways to improve hygiene.

His seriousness makes him particularly vulnerable to Okita's behavior. Okita casually scrubs the mole from Seizou's forehead with a toilet brush and then incorporates it into another bathroom scheme.

Seizou is a trained Shinsengumi officer and therefore possesses the basic martial and law-enforcement skills expected of the corps.

His most strongly established specialty is cleaning. He has detailed standards for bathroom hygiene and immediately identifies behavioral problems responsible for the poor state of the Shinsengumi facilities.

No distinctive named combat technique is established for him, and his principal appearance focuses on sanitation rather than fighting.

Seizou is introduced during the Shinsengumi headquarters' cleaning day, when Okita's 1st Division receives toilet duty. While the other officers resent the assignment, Seizou enthusiastically explains the importance of maintaining clean facilities.

His complaints about the men's habits persuade Hijikata that the toilets require systematic reform. Seizou, Hijikata and Okita experiment with several increasingly elaborate methods of encouraging better aim and hygiene.

The story eventually escalates into a fantastical bacterial disaster, only for the apocalyptic sequence to be revealed as part of Hijikata's dream.

Seizou later appears among the Shinsengumi during the organization's larger conflicts, remaining one of the named rank-and-file officers attached to Okita's division.

Sougo Okita is Seizou's 1st Division captain. Okita participates in his sanitation campaign while repeatedly subjecting him to humiliating ideas.

Toushirou Hijikata takes Seizou's complaints seriously enough to support his proposed Toilet Revolution.

Isao Kondou is Seizou's commander and becomes an unfortunate participant in one of the trio's bathroom experiments.

Sagaru Yamazaki is a fellow Shinsengumi officer involved in the story's escalating sanitation crisis.
