Scoop no Otoko

Scoop no Otoko is resentful, theatrical and preoccupied with recognition. He views his survival of infection as something that should have made him extraordinary in the eyes of other people.

Kurusu therefore becomes a natural focus for his frustration. Both men have experienced anomalous infection, but only one has become an internet symbol surrounded by followers.

His unusual clothing and weapons reinforce his deliberately conspicuous persona. He wants more than survival; he wants acknowledgement that he belongs among the exceptional people emerging from the disaster.

Scoop no Otoko uses two modified shovels fitted with sword-like blades. Their long handles provide reach, while the combination of cutting edges and the weight of the tools makes them dangerous close-combat weapons.

The ZQN bite he received while working at a supermarket does not transform him conventionally. Instead, he retains his mind while developing greatly enhanced physical capabilities, placing him in the same broad category as Kurusu and the later Takashi.

His altered body allows him to fight other anomalously infected humans directly, something an ordinary survivor would be poorly equipped to attempt.

Scoop no Otoko appears as the Kurusu-group storyline moves toward its confrontation among several anomalously infected people.

His existence demonstrates that the original Kurusu's condition is not unique. Another person can be bitten, retain human consciousness and emerge physically transformed without any connection to Kurusu's original infection.

He becomes involved in the violent confrontation with Kurusu and the newly transformed Takashi. Their clash helps reveal the emerging pattern behind people who survive ZQN infection without becoming ordinary infected.

Kurusu is the person Scoop no Otoko waits to confront. Scoop no Otoko resents Kurusu's fame because both experienced abnormal infection, yet only Kurusu was celebrated as a new kind of hero.

Takashi Ezaki becomes another anomalously infected combatant. Scoop no Otoko, Takashi Ezaki and Kurusu are drawn into the same violent confrontation after Takashi's transformation.
