Satsuki Souma

Satsuki is affectionate, optimistic and remarkably easygoing. She is also extremely absent-minded and clumsy, to the point that Hiro frequently behaves like the responsible adult in their conversations and worries that she will hurt herself.

Her apparent airheadedness does not mean she is oblivious to her son's emotions. Satsuki understands Hiro better than he sometimes realizes and knows how to respond to his prickly behavior without taking offense.

Most importantly, she accepts Hiro completely. When confronted with having a child possessed by a Zodiac spirit, her response is essentially delight that she loves sheep.

Satsuki has no supernatural abilities and is not herself a member of the Zodiac.

Her role within the cursed family is notable precisely because she handles Hiro's condition without treating it as a catastrophe. She provides the stable parental affection that several other Zodiac children lack.

Satsuki appears primarily through Hiro's family life. Her presence reveals that possession by a Zodiac spirit does not inevitably produce parental rejection, overprotection or resentment.

Her second pregnancy also becomes important to Hiro. He is deeply concerned about his mother's safety and simultaneously begins confronting the prospect of becoming an older brother.

Satsuki later gives birth to a daughter, Hinata, expanding the loving household that has provided Hiro with an important refuge from the pressures surrounding the Zodiac.

Hiro Souma is Satsuki's son. She openly adores Hiro Souma and accepts his Zodiac possession without hesitation.

Hinata Souma is Satsuki's younger child. Her birth makes Hiro an older brother and becomes an important source of happiness for the family.

Kisa Souma is someone Satsuki already treats warmly because of her closeness to Hiro, even teasingly anticipating having her as a future daughter-in-law.
