Sakata receives little characterization outside competition. He is presented principally as an opposing pitcher whose unusual mechanics create a specific challenge for Seishuu's hitters.

Sakata throws with a submarine motion, releasing the baseball from near ground level. The delivery changes both the visual angle and apparent movement of his pitches compared with a conventional overhand pitcher.

That style is his defining baseball weapon. Batters who rarely face submarine pitching have less familiar visual cues for tracking the ball from release to the plate.

Sakata appears as an opposing pitcher during Seishuu's tournament campaign. His presence gives the lineup a stylistically different pitching problem rather than another straightforward velocity contest.

The game forms part of Seishuu's progression through increasingly varied opponents as the team attempts to advance toward the prefectural championship.
