Ryuusei Gin

Ryuusei is competitive and highly confident in the skills he developed through arcade gaming. His former world-champion status gives him reason to believe that his precision and reactions will translate naturally into Duel Monsters.

He initially approaches Judai as an assignment from the Society of Light rather than because of a personal grudge. His focus is on demonstrating that his specialized style can overcome Judai's unconventional play.

Ryuusei is capable of appreciating an opponent even after a competitive confrontation. Judai's insistence on enjoying the duel makes an impression on him and challenges the more rigid attitude encouraged by the Society of Light.

Ryuusei is a former world champion at a shooting arcade game, giving him exceptional experience with fast reactions, target selection and precision.

His B.E.S. Deck draws directly from shoot-'em-up video games. B.E.S. monsters enter play with counters that help them survive battles, while their effects gradually consume those counters as combat continues.

Boss Rush and related cards reinforce the arcade-game structure of his strategy by allowing one B.E.S. monster to follow another. His duel therefore resembles progressing through waves of bosses rather than confronting a conventional monster lineup.

Ryuusei appears during the Society of Light's growing control over Duel Academy. His reputation as a world-class gamer makes him a useful specialist for the organization's efforts to challenge Judai.

Asuka and Jun arrange the confrontation, expecting Ryuusei's unusual experience and B.E.S. strategy to provide a difficult matchup. Judai instead treats the contest with his characteristic enthusiasm.

Judai defeats Ryuusei, whose attitude changes after experiencing the kind of enjoyable duel Judai values. The encounter weakens the ideological hold that the Society of Light's approach has over him.

Judai Yuki becomes Ryuusei's principal opponent. Ryuusei initially approaches Judai Yuki as a Society of Light target but develops greater respect for him through their duel.

Asuka Tenjouin and Jun Manjoume arrange Ryuusei's challenge while acting on behalf of the Society of Light.

Takuma Saiou leads the Society of Light to which Ryuusei belongs during his appearance.
