Ryouta Kise

Kise is cheerful, sociable and outwardly approachable, particularly toward people whose abilities he respects. He attaches "-cchi" to the names of those he acknowledges and can be dramatically affectionate toward former teammates, especially Kuroko.

That friendliness coexists with considerable competitive pride. Kise became accustomed to mastering activities quickly, leaving him bored whenever opponents failed to challenge him. Basketball matters because the Generation of Miracles introduced him to people whose abilities he could not simply surpass on demand.

Defeat gradually changes him. Losing to Seirin and later struggling against Aomine teaches Kise to value victory as a team rather than treating teammates as supporting pieces for his personal competition.

Kise's basic Copy allows him to observe another player's technique and reproduce it with remarkable speed. Ordinary basketball moves can be copied almost immediately, making his potential repertoire exceptionally broad. His athletic ability allows him to perform copied techniques at a high level rather than merely imitate their outward form.

Initially, he cannot reproduce the unique abilities of the other Generation of Miracles because their physical and technical requirements exceed straightforward imitation. His greatest development addresses that limitation.

Perfect Copy allows Kise to reproduce approximations of the Generation of Miracles' signature abilities by compensating for physical differences with adjustments of his own. He can emulate Aomine's formless style, Midorima's shooting, Murasakibara's defensive power, Akashi's predictive play and Kuroko's techniques. The enormous physical burden means Perfect Copy can only be sustained for limited periods.

By Last Game, Kise can combine Perfect Copy with the Zone. The resulting state makes him extraordinarily powerful for a short interval but places even greater strain on his body.

Kise is the first Generation of Miracles member directly challenged by Seirin. He initially visits because he wants Kuroko to leave Seirin and join Kaijou, believing his former instructor deserves a stronger team.

His practice match against Seirin gives Kuroko and Kagami their first victory over a Miracle and gives Kise something equally unfamiliar: defeat. That loss becomes an important turning point in his attitude toward basketball.

Kise later confronts Aomine at the Interhigh and pushes his copying ability beyond its previous limits. During the Winter Cup he returns as an even more dangerous opponent, using Perfect Copy while leading Kaijou against Seirin in the semifinals.

Tetsuya Kuroko served as Kise's personal instructor when Kise joined Teikou's first string. Kise deeply respects him and jokingly treats their middle-school relationship as much closer than Kuroko remembers it.

Daiki Aomine is the player who first inspired Kise to take basketball seriously. Kise's attempt to copy Aomine becomes a major stage in the development of his own ability.

Yukio Kasamatsu is Kise's captain at Kaijou and one of the teammates most responsible for forcing him to respect the responsibilities of team basketball.

Taiga Kagami becomes a major rival after helping inflict Kise's first meaningful defeat.

Shintarou Midorima, Atsushi Murasakibara and Seijuurou Akashi are Kise's fellow Generation of Miracles members and former Teikou teammates.
