Ruka Rengoku

Ruka is composed, intelligent, loving, and firm in her principles. She speaks gently to Kyoujurou Rengoku, but the lesson she gives him about strength is uncompromising: those blessed with greater ability are obligated to protect people who cannot protect themselves.

She does not present this responsibility as a reason for superiority. Instead, she explicitly frames strength as something that must never be used to harm or dominate weaker people.

Ruka also shows deep maternal affection. She is proud when Kyoujurou understands what she has taught him, and the memory of her approval remains a powerful emotional anchor for him.

Ruka has no established combat abilities or Breathing Style. She is not identified as a Demon Slayer, and chronic illness leaves her physically frail during the period shown in Kyoujurou's memories.

Her importance to the Rengoku family's martial legacy comes through instruction rather than combat. The ethical principles she gives Kyoujurou shape how he applies the abilities inherited and developed through his father's side of the family.

Ruka primarily appears in Kyoujurou's memories. While bedridden by illness, she asks her young son why he believes he was born stronger than other people. When he cannot answer, she explains that strength exists so that the strong can protect the weak.

This conversation becomes one of the foundations of Kyoujurou's character. His determination to protect passengers aboard the Mugen Train and his refusal to abandon injured or vulnerable people directly reflect the responsibility Ruka taught him.

During Kyoujurou's final moments, he sees a vision of Ruka and asks whether he fulfilled his responsibilities. Her answer that he did well gives him reassurance and allows him to smile.

Kyoujurou Rengoku is Ruka's elder son. She recognizes his unusual strength early and teaches him that his abilities create a responsibility to protect others.

Senjurou Rengoku is Ruka's younger son. She passes away while Senjurou is still very young.

Shinjurou Rengoku is Ruka's husband and the father of her children. Her death contributes to the despair that later consumes Shinjurou alongside his disillusionment with Flame Breathing and the history of Sun Breathing.
