Rody Soul

Rody presents himself as carefree, opportunistic, and difficult to intimidate. Years of supporting his family have made him resourceful and an accomplished negotiator, and he is comfortable exaggerating, bluffing, or talking his way out of dangerous situations. His street experience also makes him skeptical of idealistic views of hero society.

Much of that cynicism comes from growing up in Otheon's impoverished districts, where professional heroes have little presence. His family was ostracized because of his father's connection to Humarise, leaving Rody with little reason to assume that institutions or heroes would rescue him when things went wrong.

Underneath his practiced nonchalance, he is intensely devoted to his siblings. Pino frequently exposes emotions he would rather hide, making Soul an ironic Quirk for someone who relies heavily on deception.

Soul manifests as Pino, a small pink bird-like entity permanently connected to Rody's inner self. Pino's behavior reflects Rody's genuine feelings and intentions regardless of what he says, making it extremely difficult for him to convincingly lie to anyone who understands how his Quirk works.

Pino can act independently within the limits of the connection, follow Rody's instructions, distract opponents, retrieve or manipulate small objects, and assist him when he cannot act himself. Injuries and changes in Rody's condition are also reflected in Pino.

Rody himself is highly agile. Growing up on Otheon's streets gives him excellent parkour ability, balance, situational awareness, and knowledge of the city. He is also capable with vehicles and has long dreamed of becoming an airplane pilot.

Rody enters the story in Otheon while Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki are participating in the international operation against Humarise. A seemingly ordinary criminal job places him in possession of an object connected to the organization's plans, making him a target.

Forced to travel with Izuku, Rody initially treats their partnership as an unwanted complication. Their journey gradually exposes the reasons for his distrust of heroes and forces both characters to depend on one another.

Rody ultimately chooses to help stop Humarise despite opportunities to prioritize his own safety, and Pino becomes crucial during the attempt to prevent the Trigger Bombs from detonating. Afterward, he resumes his life with his siblings and eventually realizes his childhood ambition of becoming a pilot.

Izuku Midoriya begins as an inconvenient pursuer and gradually becomes Rody's trusted friend. Their opposing backgrounds create friction: Izuku believes strongly in heroism, while Rody has lived in a community largely neglected by heroes. Their journey gives Rody direct experience with the selflessness behind Izuku's ideals.

Roro Soul is Rody's younger brother and one of the primary reasons he works so relentlessly. Rody effectively acts as a caregiver and provider for him.

Lala Soul, Rody's younger sister, is equally central to his priorities. Rody's concern for her and Roro influences nearly every major decision he makes.

Eddie Soul, Rody's father, was an engineer whose association with Humarise caused the Soul family to be ostracized. His disappearance from the children's lives forces Rody into a parental role at an early age.

Pino is the manifestation of Rody's Quirk and an inseparable companion. Because Pino expresses feelings Rody tries to conceal, she frequently reveals the compassionate side beneath his streetwise persona.
