Ray Akaba

Ray is courageous, compassionate and willing to act decisively when other people are threatened. Although her direct screen time is limited, the circumstances surrounding her establish her as someone prepared to oppose overwhelming power rather than remain passive.

She also possesses enough technical understanding to recognize the danger created by advanced Duel Monsters technology. Her actions demonstrate independence even when that means opposing someone extremely close to her.

Ray's determination continues to influence events long after the circumstances of her original life have become obscured.

Ray uses four Natural Energy cards: En Flowers, En Birds, En Winds and En Moon. Each draws on energy associated with a different aspect of nature.

Together, the cards possess enough power to counter an extraordinary concentration of dimensional energy. Their use becomes fundamental to the creation of the world in which the main story occurs.

Ray's power is later expressed through Yuzu, Serena, Ruri and Rin, the four girls created when her existence was divided.

Ray enters the narrative through revelations about the world that existed before Standard, Fusion, Synchro and Xyz became separate dimensions.

Ray is Leo Akaba's daughter from the Original Dimension. When Z-ARC's rampage threatens to destroy the world, she takes the four Natural Energy cards created by her father and uses them against him.

The resulting event splits the Original Dimension into four worlds and divides Ray herself into Yuzu Hiiragi, Serena, Ruri Kurosaki and Rin. Leo's Revival Zero project is subsequently designed to reunite those four counterparts and resurrect Ray.

Ray ultimately becomes crucial again when Z-ARC returns, with her divided counterparts and Reira providing the means through which she can oppose him.

Leo Akaba has the most important connection to Ray. Leo Akaba is Ray Akaba's father, and his inability to accept losing her drives the Arc Area Project and Revival Zero.

Yuzu Hiiragi, Serena, Ruri Kurosaki and Rin are mysteriously connected to Ray. Yuzu Hiiragi, Serena, Ruri Kurosaki and Rin are the four counterparts created when Ray Akaba was divided across the new dimensions.

Yuuya Sakaki, Yuuto, Yuugo and Yuri are connected to the catastrophe that shaped Ray's history. They are the four counterparts of Z-ARC, the duelist Ray Akaba originally stopped.

Reira Akaba becomes important to Ray during the final conflict. Reira Akaba provides the vessel through which Ray Akaba can oppose the revived Z-ARC.
