Pochita

Pochita is affectionate, loyal, self-sacrificing, and unusually compassionate for a Devil. He accepts Denji's offer of blood when both are desperate and continues working beside him instead of exploiting the boy's vulnerability.

Although he initially speaks only through animal-like sounds, Pochita understands Denji's hopes intimately. He enjoys listening to Denji describe ordinary dreams such as eating good food, living in a proper home, and someday having a romantic relationship.

His greatest concern is not abstract heroism but Denji's ability to continue wanting things from life. Even when Denji's dreams are foolish or embarrassing, Pochita treats the desire to keep dreaming as valuable.

In his small form, Pochita can function as a living chainsaw. Denji grips the handle on his body while the blade protruding from Pochita's head cuts through Devils, trees, and other material.

Pochita is the Chainsaw Devil and possesses a vastly more powerful true form known among Devils as Chainsaw Man or the Hero of Hell. In that form, chainsaws emerge from his arms and head, his strength and speed increase enormously, and his body can recover from extreme destruction by consuming blood or restarting his engine.

His most extraordinary ability activates when he eats a Devil. Devils consumed by Pochita can have both their names and the concepts they represent erased from reality, altering history and the memories of living beings. This makes him uniquely terrifying to other Devils.

Pochita meets Denji when both are badly injured and alone. Denji offers him blood in exchange for a partnership, beginning years of hunting Devils to pay the Yakuza debt.

After the Yakuza betray Denji and the Zombie Devil has his body cut apart, Pochita merges with him and becomes his heart. Their contract requires Denji to show Pochita his dreams in exchange for receiving a second chance at life.

Makima later reveals that Pochita once fought the Four Horsemen and weapon Devils in Hell. She deliberately destroys Denji's ordinary life to break his contract and force Pochita's true form to emerge, hoping to defeat and control the Devil whose consumption can erase concepts.

Much later, after Denji and Pochita endure another cycle of escalating conflict, Pochita makes an extreme decision intended to free Denji from the burden of Chainsaw Man itself. He consumes his own heart, erasing himself and producing a radically altered reality.

Denji is Pochita's closest companion and contractual partner. Their relationship begins as mutual survival and develops into an unusually intimate friendship in which each repeatedly sacrifices for the other's happiness.

Makima idolizes Pochita's true Chainsaw Man form and seeks to defeat him so that she can control his concept-erasing ability.

Power becomes part of the family Denji builds after merging with Pochita, and Pochita later helps Denji understand the importance of fulfilling promises connected to the Blood Devil.

Nayuta becomes the reincarnation of the Control Devil whom Pochita asks Denji to raise with affection so she can experience the equal relationship Makima always wanted.

Yoru bears a long-standing grudge against Pochita because Chainsaw Man consumed concepts associated with war, including Nuclear Weapons, severely weakening her.
