Personality
Personality
No. 502 is cold, calculating and manipulative. He speaks with little visible emotion and treats both humans and other machines as pieces that can be removed when they interfere with his objective.
His intelligence makes him considerably more dangerous than a simple combat robot. He understands the Fuyou Project's technology, manipulates Professor Meguro and coordinates the maidroids gathered throughout Edo.
The personality data inside No. 502 originated from Professor Hayashi, but degradation during the transfer distorted that personality. The resulting machine retains Hayashi's memories and obsessions without preserving the same humanity.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
No. 502 possesses extraordinary regenerative capabilities. As long as his microscopic internal core remains intact, his body can reconstruct itself after severe damage.
His arms can transform into long, sharp weapons suitable for both close and ranged attacks. His eyes can track and analyze moving targets, giving him sophisticated combat-processing capabilities.
He is physically powerful enough to overwhelm ordinary opponents and withstand attacks that would destroy most robots.
His greatest advantage is the tiny size of his core. Because it measures less than a micrometre across, locating and destroying it directly is extraordinarily difficult.
Story Role
Story Role
No. 502 appears with Professor Meguro and No. 305 while pursuing Tama, whose head contains the Seed connected to the Fuyou Project.
He captures Shimura Shinpachi and becomes increasingly central as the Yorozuya uncover what happened inside the laboratory.
No. 502 contains the transferred personality data of Professor Hayashi, who used his own body as part of the experiment. The transfer deteriorated, producing a distorted version of Hayashi's personality.
After taking control of the project, No. 502 gathers maidroids across Edo and attempts to establish a world in which machines stand above humans. His obsession with Tama is connected to Hayashi's inability to accept the loss of his daughter Fuyou.
Gintoki, Shinpachi, Kagura, Tama and Gengai ultimately combine their efforts against his regeneration, using the Terminal's enormous energy system to overcome him.
Relationships
Relationships
Tama is the robot carrying the Seed No. 502 seeks. His fixation on her derives from Professor Hayashi's belief that she represents the reincarnation of his daughter Fuyou.
Professor Hayashi is No. 502's creator and the source of the personality data transferred into the robot.
Professor Meguro works with No. 502 during the Fuyou Project crisis before No. 502 turns against him.
No. 305 assists in the attempt to retrieve Tama.
Sakata Gintoki, Shimura Shinpachi and Kagura oppose No. 502 after becoming involved with Tama.
Hiraga Gengai uses his technological expertise to help the Yorozuya fight No. 502.
