Nanaba

Nanaba is composed, observant, and disciplined. She rarely allows panic to interfere with her duties, even when operating beyond the Walls or confronting Titans with limited resources. Her temperament suits the Survey Corps, where rapid decisions frequently determine whether soldiers survive.

She is also attentive to the people under her protection. While guarding members of the 104th, Nanaba works with the other veterans to keep the recruits organized despite withholding sensitive information from them. Her behavior is authoritative without being needlessly antagonistic.

Her courage is clearest when circumstances deteriorate. Even after the soldiers defending Utgard Castle begin exhausting their blades and gas, Nanaba continues fighting to protect the cadets trapped inside. Her final moments reveal terror beneath her normally controlled demeanor as traumatic memories of her father surface.

Nanaba is an experienced Survey Corps soldier with considerable skill using ODM gear. She can move effectively through forests, settlements, and other environments where anchors are available, and she possesses the precision necessary to attack a Titan's nape while avoiding its hands and jaws.

Her battlefield experience is equally important. Nanaba understands formation discipline, reconnaissance, and the need to conserve limited blades and gas during extended engagements. She can fight independently but also functions effectively as part of a coordinated squad.

At Utgard Castle, Nanaba participates in a prolonged defense against numerous Titans despite the group's limited supplies. She continues killing Titans until her equipment is effectively exhausted, demonstrating both endurance and considerable practical experience.

Nanaba initially appears among the experienced Survey Corps personnel participating in operations beyond the Walls. She later becomes one of the soldiers assigned to monitor members of the 104th Cadet Corps while the military investigates the identities and motives of hostile Titan shifters.

When Titans unexpectedly appear inside Wall Rose, Nanaba joins Mike's group in responding to the emergency. After the soldiers split into smaller teams, she accompanies several cadets and fellow Survey Corps members toward Utgard Castle.

The castle comes under attack during the night, forcing Nanaba, Gelgar, Henning, and Lynne to defend the unarmed cadets. Nanaba survives much of the battle but is eventually seized and killed by Titans after the defenders exhaust their resources.

Her part in the sequence emphasizes the vulnerability even of experienced Survey Corps veterans. Skill with ODM gear can delay disaster and save others, but it cannot overcome indefinitely worsening numbers and depleted equipment.

Mike Zacharias is Nanaba's superior within the Survey Corps, and she operates as part of the veteran force under his command.

Gelgar fights alongside Nanaba during the Wall Rose crisis and becomes one of her closest battlefield partners at Utgard Castle.

Henning and Lynne are fellow Survey Corps soldiers assigned to the same operation.

Reiner Braun, Bertholdt Hoover, Ymir, and Connie Springer are among the cadets Nanaba and the other veterans protect during the Utgard Castle incident.

Christa Lenz is likewise among the cadets caught in the castle and protected by Nanaba's group.
