Personality
Personality
Midvalley is intelligent, cynical and acutely aware of how dangerous the people around him are. He is a professional killer, but the manga distinguishes him from followers who embrace Knives and Legato without reservation.
Music remains central to his identity even after he becomes part of the Gung-Ho Guns. His mastery of sound is both artistic and lethal, turning the same technical sensitivity required of a musician into a weapon.
His resentment of those controlling him becomes increasingly important in the manga. Midvalley ultimately attempts to escape his situation by turning against Legato, despite understanding the enormous danger involved.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Midvalley's saxophone, Sylvia, can produce sound at destructive frequencies. He uses precisely controlled acoustic waves to attack opponents and can turn ordinary musical performance into a lethal weapon.
His control extends beyond raw volume. Midvalley can identify, manipulate and counter frequencies, allowing him to neutralize sounds as well as generate damaging ones.
This ability makes him dangerous at range without conventional gunfire. His attacks can exploit the environment itself as sound propagates through the battlefield.
Story Role
Story Role
Midvalley serves among the Gung-Ho Guns sent against Vash the Stampede. The 1998 anime gives him a comparatively straightforward role as one of Legato's dangerous subordinates.
The manga expands his background considerably. Midvalley originally performs with a band that kills for money. Knives encounters the group and kills the other musicians, leaving Midvalley alive and effectively forcing him into service.
Midvalley eventually attempts to rebel against Legato. The confrontation fails, and Legato later manipulates Midvalley's body as a weapon during the continuing conflict.
