Mamushi

Mamushi is demanding but energetic as a factory supervisor. He expects workers to maintain the production line efficiently and treats the manufacture of Justaways as perfectly ordinary work, becoming frustrated when Sagaru Yamazaki questions what they are actually making.

His apparent enthusiasm for manufacturing conceals deep resentment after losing his former employment. He gathers other displaced samurai around him by channeling similar dissatisfaction with society.

Mamushi's principal strength is weapons production rather than personal combat. His factory manufactures Justaways, small explosive devices disguised as featureless figurines.

The operation also possesses heavier weaponry, including the Mamushi-Z laser cannon. By disguising weapons production as an innocuous factory, Mamushi is able to operate without immediately attracting attention.

Yamazaki infiltrates the Mamushi Factory on behalf of the Shinsengumi to determine whether it is producing weapons. There he unexpectedly encounters an amnesiac Sakata Gintoki, who has become an exceptionally productive assembly-line worker.

Mamushi initially presents the factory as a simple manufacturer of Justaway dolls. A dropped Justaway explodes, exposing the figures as bombs and revealing that Mamushi's operation is supplying weapons for an anti-government plot.

The discovery brings the factory into direct conflict with the Shinsengumi and Yorozuya.

Sagaru Yamazaki infiltrates Mamushi's factory as a Shinsengumi spy.

Sakata Gintoki works at the factory while suffering from amnesia and impresses Mamushi with his production speed.

Isao Kondou also appears at the factory while affected by amnesia.

Tasuke is Mamushi's son, whose later criminal behavior reflects his disillusionment after watching his father lose conventional employment.
