Maa

Maa is energetic, affectionate and considerably more aggressive toward President Aria than her tiny size suggests. Biting his belly becomes a recurring gag whenever the company presidents meet.

She forms an immediate bond with Alice, who risks breaking Orange Planet's dormitory rules to keep her. Maa's simple presence also exposes Alice's softer side, since the normally reserved trainee becomes openly concerned when the kitten disappears.

Maa communicates primarily through her namesake "maa" sound rather than human speech, as with the other company cats' distinctive vocalizations.

Maa is an ordinary-looking Aqua cat rather than a working Undine, so her "abilities" are primarily those expected of a small, agile kitten.

Her blue eyes are important institutionally. Undine companies traditionally appoint blue-eyed cats as presidents because Aqua's blue-eyed cats are regarded as good-luck figures connected with the planet's aquamarine color.

As president of Orange Planet, Maa functions as the company's mascot and symbolic head rather than exercising human administrative authority.

Maa first appears when Alice secretly shelters her in the Orange Planet dormitory despite rules against keeping pets. Akari discovers the kitten during a visit, while Athena quietly realizes what Alice has been doing.

When Maa disappears, Alice fears she has lost her. Athena uses her singing to draw the kitten out and then reveals that she has arranged for Maa to replace Orange Planet's previous company president, allowing Alice to keep her legitimately.

A later company-president physical examination reveals that Maa is female, correcting the assumption reflected in Alice's affectionate use of "Maa-kun."

Alice Carroll finds Maa as a stray, names her and becomes her primary human companion.

Athena Glory knows that Alice is secretly keeping Maa and arranges for the kitten to become Orange Planet's president.

Aria Pokoteng is Maa's favorite target for belly biting. Maa is also shown to be attracted to him.

Hime M. Granzchesta is another of Neo-Venezia's company presidents and regularly appears with Maa and President Aria.
