Loke

Loke is charming, theatrical, flirtatious, and confident around women. He dates frequently and is famous enough among readers of Sorcerer Magazine to rank highly in polls about desirable male mages.

His superficial reputation hides strong moral boundaries. Loke reacts harshly to abuse and is especially protective of women placed in powerless situations. He is also fiercely loyal to Fairy Tail and willingly endangers himself to protect fellow members.

His behavior around Lucy is initially contradictory: he flirts with her before discovering her profession, then suddenly avoids her once he realizes she is a Celestial Spirit Mage.

Loke initially fights using Ring Magic, particularly a magical ring capable of producing light and other effects. He is also an accomplished hand-to-hand fighter who relies on speed and close-range strikes rather than weapons.

Loke is actually Leo, the Lion, one of the twelve Gold Zodiac Celestial Spirits and the leader of the Zodiac spirits. His principal magic is Regulus, which surrounds his body with the light of the star Regulus and greatly enhances his strikes.

As a powerful combat spirit, he can remain in the human world longer than many Celestial Spirits and can sometimes open his own gate without being summoned.

Loke appears throughout Fairy Tail's early adventures as a background guild member, frequently participating in brawls and flirting with women. His unusually strong aversion to Celestial Spirit mages gradually becomes a mystery surrounding him.

Years earlier, Loke served the Celestial Spirit Mage Karen Lilica. After witnessing Karen abuse Aries, he refused to return to the Celestial Spirit World and prevented Karen from summoning other spirits until she agreed to release them. Karen later attempted a job without her primary spirits and was killed; Loke blamed himself and was forbidden from returning to the Spirit World.

Lucy eventually discovers his identity as Leo and opens his gate despite the Celestial Spirit King's prohibition. Her willingness to risk herself convinces the king to pardon Loke, after which Leo's Gold Key passes to Lucy.

Loke subsequently serves as one of Lucy's strongest regular spirits while retaining his friendships and membership in Fairy Tail.

Lucy Heartfilia becomes Loke's closest human partner. She saves him from fading away and later becomes the owner of his Gold Key.

Aries is a fellow Celestial Spirit whom Loke protects from an abusive contract.

Karen Lilica is Loke's former owner. His refusal to return to the Spirit World after her abuse of Aries indirectly contributes to the circumstances surrounding Karen's death, a burden he carries for years.

Celestial Spirit King judges Loke for violating Celestial Spirit law and later pardons him after Lucy challenges the sentence.

Gray Fullbuster is one of Loke's guild friends and later his partner during the S-Class Promotion Trial.
