Lina

Lina is brave, outspoken and protective of herself and the people around her. She is not easily intimidated by threatening adults and is willing to physically resist someone who behaves inappropriately toward her.

She becomes comfortable with Vash during his time living near her grandmother. Their interactions are far removed from the mythology of the Humanoid Typhoon, allowing Lina to know him primarily as the gentle man living under the name Eriks.

Her courage does not make her reckless about everyone around her. Lina recognizes danger and reacts strongly when people she cares about are threatened.

Lina is an ordinary twelve-year-old with no supernatural abilities or established firearms expertise.

She nevertheless displays considerable courage. In the manga, she is willing to kick a threatening man who harasses her rather than passively accepting his behavior.

Her importance lies in her ordinary humanity and the life surrounding Vash during his withdrawal from his former travels.

Lina appears after Vash has vanished from the public eye. He is living under the name Eriks with Lina and her grandmother, having withdrawn from the life associated with the Humanoid Typhoon.

Meryl Stryfe eventually finds him, bringing the outside world back into the quiet existence he has established.

Vash ultimately decides to resume his journey despite Lina and Sheryl's concern for him. Lina's home therefore represents the peaceful life available to him if he were willing to abandon the conflict surrounding his past.

Vash the Stampede lives near Lina while using the name Eriks. Lina knows him through this quieter period rather than primarily through his reputation as the Humanoid Typhoon.

Sheryl is Lina's grandmother and shares the household that gives Vash a place to recover.

Meryl Stryfe arrives while searching for Vash and becomes the connection between his secluded life with Lina and the journey he left behind.
