Liebe

Liebe is angry, sarcastic, stubborn, and deeply distrustful of other devils. His childhood at the bottom of the underworld's hierarchy leaves him with intense resentment toward the stronger devils who tormented him for lacking magic.

Despite insisting that all devils are cruel, Liebe himself repeatedly contradicts that claim. Asta notices during their Devil-Binding Ritual that Liebe has no genuine killing intent, even while threatening to take his body.

Beneath his anger, Liebe is capable of strong familial attachment. Licita's kindness gives him the first safe home of his life, and he comes to regard her as his mother. Her death protecting him transforms his resentment of the underworld into a determination to destroy the devils responsible.

Liebe possesses no mana and cannot use conventional magic. That absence is crucial to his history: because the barrier between the underworld and human world restricts beings according to magical power, Liebe can physically pass through it when stronger devils cannot.

While sealed inside the five-leaf grimoire, Liebe develops Anti Magic, a unique energy capable of nullifying magical effects. It can break spells, dispel curses and traps, and coat weapons so that they cut through magic rather than merely physical matter.

He can summon and manipulate the swords stored within the grimoire, including the Demon-Slayer, Demon-Dweller, and Demon-Destroyer swords.

After forming an equal contract with Asta, Liebe learns Devil Union with him. Their synchronized form concentrates Anti Magic across Asta's body and weapons, allowing them to erase enormous quantities of magic and directly fight highest-ranking devils. Their initial union lasts approximately five minutes before requiring recovery.

Liebe's power is present from the moment Asta receives the five-leaf grimoire, though the devil himself remains unidentified for much of the story. Anti Magic allows Asta to wield Licht's former swords and becomes the defining power behind his Magic Knight career.

Liebe manifests more directly when Asta requires greater Anti Magic, particularly after the Witch Queen removes limits preventing the power from circulating freely through Asta's body.

After Yami and Asta fight Dante, Nacht Faust summons Liebe from the grimoire through the Devil-Binding Ritual. Asta defeats him in direct combat but refuses to make the customary master-servant contract, instead proposing that the two work as equals.

Liebe's past reveals that he escaped the underworld as a child, was adopted by Licita, and was later sealed inside the five-leaf grimoire after Lucifero attempted to possess him.

During the battle against Lucifero, Asta experiences Liebe's memories and realizes the depth of his grief. Their shared determination strengthens Devil Union, allowing them to fight with an unprecedented degree of synchronization.

Asta is Liebe's partner and adoptive brother through their shared connection to Licita. Asta rejects the idea of enslaving him and forms an equal devil contract instead.

Licita finds Liebe after he reaches the human world, names him, adopts him, and raises him as her son. Her sacrifice becomes the central emotional event of his life.

Lucifero is the highest-ranking devil Liebe hates most personally. Lucifero attempts to possess Liebe and fatally wounds Licita when she intervenes.

Nacht Faust summons Liebe physically and supervises the process through which he and Asta learn Devil Union.

Gimodelo, Plumede, Slotos, and Walgner are other contracted devils Liebe encounters through Nacht.
