Personality
Personality
Kuina is disciplined, competitive and exceptionally serious about swordsmanship. She accepts Zoro’s repeated challenges and defeats him every time, including their final duel with real swords.
Her confidence in practice conceals anxiety about the future. Kuina believes physical differences between men and women will eventually prevent her from remaining stronger than Zoro, a fear reinforced by her father’s expectations about who can inherit the dojo.
Zoro rejects her resignation and insists that skill, rather than sex, should decide which of them becomes the greatest. Kuina responds by making a mutual promise, briefly recovering the determination that had driven her training.

Kuina is the strongest young student at the Isshin Dojo. She defeats Zoro in 2,000 practice bouts and then wins their duel with real swords, demonstrating superior technique and composure.
She wields Wado Ichimonji, a Great Grade blade created by her grandfather Shimotsuki Kozaburo. The sword later becomes Zoro’s most personally significant weapon.
Kuina dies before her abilities can develop into an adult fighting style. No Haki, named techniques or combat experience beyond dojo training are established for her.

After overhearing doubts about her future as a female swordsman, Kuina confides in Zoro. They duel with real blades and promise to compete for the title of world’s greatest swordsman.
Kuina dies after falling down a staircase the next day. Zoro asks her father for Wado Ichimonji and vows to become so renowned that his name will reach her in heaven. Her promise remains the foundation of his dream throughout the series.
