Personality
Personality
Kagurazaka is insecure about his own abilities and compensates by imitating successful duelists. He does not merely copy their cards; he studies their speech, gestures and behavior until he can perform an exaggerated impersonation during a duel.
This dependence on imitation leaves him without confidence in his own identity as a duelist. When one copied strategy fails, his instinct is to search for a stronger person to imitate rather than analyze how he could improve independently.
His enthusiasm is genuine, however. Kagurazaka wants badly to become a great duelist, and his encounters with Judai begin teaching him that understanding a Deck and forming one's own relationship with its cards matters more than reproducing someone else's victories.
Abilities & Powers
Abilities & Powers
Kagurazaka has an unusual talent for studying and reproducing other people's Decks. He memorizes card combinations and attempts to imitate the original user's decision-making, allowing him to approximate several established strategies.
Before his encounter with Judai, he copies Cronos de Medici's Ancient Gear Deck but loses while using it against Sho Marufuji. He subsequently becomes interested in the replica of Yugi's Deck displayed at the academy.
Using Yugi's cards gives Kagurazaka access to Dark Magician, Dark Magician Girl, the Magnet Warriors and other famous combinations. His weakness is that he understands these cards primarily through imitation and cannot reproduce the intuition and experience behind their original use.
Story Role
Story Role
Kagurazaka appears when Duel Academy holds an exhibition featuring a replica of Yugi's Deck. Having already failed while copying other duelists, he becomes convinced that using the Deck of the legendary King of Games will finally make him unbeatable.
He takes the Deck and begins behaving like Yugi while challenging Judai. The resulting duel pits Judai's personally developed Elemental HERO strategy against Kagurazaka's attempt to reproduce one of history's greatest duelists.
Judai defeats Kagurazaka despite the enormous strength of the copied Deck, demonstrating that possessing another duelist's cards is not equivalent to possessing their skill. Kagurazaka subsequently begins considering the importance of developing his own dueling identity.
Relationships
Relationships
Judai Yuki challenges Kagurazaka after he takes the replica Deck. Their duel forces Kagurazaka to confront the limitations of copying another player's style.
Yugi Mutou is the legendary duelist Kagurazaka most strongly attempts to imitate, although the two do not personally meet during Kagurazaka's storyline.
Cronos de Medici is another duelist whose Deck Kagurazaka copies while searching for a successful strategy.
Sho Marufuji defeats Kagurazaka while he is using a copy of Cronos's Deck, contributing to Kagurazaka's decision to seek an even stronger duelist to imitate.
