Junpei Hyuuga

Hyuuga normally presents himself as a responsible and comparatively ordinary captain, but intense competition brings out a much sharper personality. When his clutch mentality activates, his language becomes more aggressive and his confidence rises sharply. That switch is familiar enough to Seirin that his teammates recognize it as part of how he handles pressure.

He can be short-tempered, especially when teammates behave foolishly, yet he takes his responsibilities seriously. Seirin's team contains unusual personalities and exceptionally talented younger players, so Hyuuga often serves as the practical authority keeping the group focused.

His attachment to samurai figures provides an unexpectedly vulnerable side. He values the collection enough that deliberately destroying figures as punishment for missed practice shots becomes a powerful psychological training method.

Hyuuga specializes in three-point shooting and is known as a clutch player because his accuracy becomes especially valuable during decisive periods. He is not built around the overwhelming physical gifts of the Generation of Miracles; his effectiveness comes from repetition, mental resilience and shooting technique.

His Barrier Jumper creates separation by exploiting a defender's movement before releasing the shot. He later develops additional shooting forms while competing against increasingly sophisticated perimeter defenders.

His duel with Rakuzan's Reo Mibuchi becomes the culmination of his development as a shooter. By studying Mibuchi's three specialized shooting forms and enduring intense defensive pressure, Hyuuga finds ways to contest and answer techniques belonging to one of the Uncrowned Kings.

Hyuuga is one of the founding members of Seirin's basketball club. Alongside Teppei Kiyoshi, Shun Izuki, Shinji Koganei and Rinnosuke Mitobe, he helps transform the new school into a serious basketball program.

When Kuroko and Kagami join, Hyuuga remains the team's captain despite the arrival of players with more unusual abilities. His role is particularly important because Seirin needs dependable perimeter scoring whenever opponents collapse around Kagami or disrupt Kuroko's passing.

During Seirin's Winter Cup run, Hyuuga repeatedly delivers critical three-pointers against elite opponents. His confrontation with Mibuchi during the final against Rakuzan pits Seirin's captain against an Uncrowned King specializing in the same position and becomes one of the defining individual battles of the championship game.

Teppei Kiyoshi is Hyuuga's close friend, teammate and fellow founder of Seirin's basketball club. Their personalities clash frequently, but Kiyoshi's determination was instrumental in drawing Hyuuga back toward competitive basketball.

Riko Aida is Seirin's coach and Hyuuga's longtime schoolmate. The two share a particularly familiar relationship and frequently argue while working together to manage the team.

Shun Izuki, Shinji Koganei and Rinnosuke Mitobe are fellow members of Seirin's original generation.

Tetsuya Kuroko and Taiga Kagami become crucial younger teammates whom Hyuuga leads as captain.

Reo Mibuchi is Hyuuga's major positional rival during the Winter Cup, with Hyuuga eventually learning to challenge the Uncrowned King's specialized shooting techniques.
