Jii

Jii is sarcastic, cynical and far less deferential than his job suggests. He regularly refers to Hata Ouji as an idiot and rarely bothers concealing his irritation when the prince creates another disaster.

His treatment of Hata can appear remarkably callous. He is willing to ignore the prince's distress and sometimes worsens his predicament rather than immediately helping him. These actions provide a running contrast between the loyal old-retainer archetype and Jii's actual behavior.

Nevertheless, Jii has raised Hata since infancy and genuinely cares about him. When circumstances become truly serious, the depth of their shared history becomes clearer.

Jii has no major combat abilities established in the series. His value lies primarily in experience, practical judgment and his knowledge of Hata's affairs.

As a royal servant from Oukoku, he understands the prince's animals, spacecraft and political background better than most of the Earth characters who become entangled in Hata's problems.

His survival through repeated disasters involving dangerous alien creatures also reflects considerable resilience, even if he usually prefers avoiding direct combat.

Jii accompanies Hata during most of the prince's appearances. He frequently serves as the person who explains what one of Hata's creatures is, how dangerous it has become or why the Yorozuya have once again been dragged into an alien-related crisis.

During the Umibouzu arc, he accompanies Hata during another animal-related catastrophe and becomes caught in the incident involving the parasitic alien at the Terminal.

His significance increases during the Silver Soul conflict when Hata's connection to Oukoku becomes strategically important. Jii continues supporting the prince as Hata becomes involved in Earth's defense.

Hata Ouji is Jii's master and effectively his foster child. Jii raised him from infancy, producing an unusually informal relationship in which affection exists alongside constant ridicule.

Sakata Gintoki, Shimura Shinpachi and Kagura repeatedly encounter Jii through Hata's animal-related disasters.

Shijaku belongs to the Oukoku royal family Jii has served and is revealed as Hata's older brother.
