JJ is quiet, thoughtful and confident in his physical ability. He spends much of his initial time in the Gantz room standing apart from the louder participants and observing what happens.

His interest in Katou's demonstration reveals a competitive side. Rather than dismissing the impossible strength granted by the suit, JJ immediately wants to test it against his own martial arts.

He remains composed enough to fight once the Buddhist Temple mission becomes chaotic, relying on familiar physical techniques instead of panicking over the unfamiliar technology.

JJ is an experienced martial artist with considerable natural strength. He can defeat several human-sized temple aliens in close combat despite lacking the protection and strength enhancement of a Gantz suit.

He demonstrates striking ability, toughness and willingness to continue fighting after being injured. His decision not to equip a suit, however, leaves him far more vulnerable than properly prepared hunters.

JJ does not demonstrate meaningful proficiency with Gantz firearms or other equipment during his limited participation.

JJ is among the new participants introduced before the Buddhist Temple mission. After watching Katou demonstrate the suit's strength by lifting other participants, he challenges Katou to test that power directly.

During the mission, JJ joins the survivors fleeing the enormous guardian statues and later fights smaller aliens with martial arts. He eventually travels with the group led by Masanobu Hojo.

Without a Gantz suit to protect him, JJ suffers severe injuries while fighting one of the temple creatures and is killed during the battle.

Masaru Katou attracts JJ's attention after demonstrating the Gantz suit's enhanced strength. JJ challenges Masaru Katou physically, apparently interested in understanding how powerful the suit makes him.

Masanobu Hojo leads the group JJ accompanies during part of the Buddhist Temple mission.
